Shopping at the Farmer’s Market

Aside from growing your own food, shopping at the Farmer’s Market is a great way to supplement your weekly grocery shopping.  The local producers are supported and your family gets to enjoy the very freshest of seasonal produce.

For our family it is a Saturday morning tradition.  The kids LOVE it and the vendors LOVE having interested kids to talk to.  Pair two inquisitive children with a local farmer and you will end up with a wealth of regional growing tips and new recipes for that unusual produce item.

Friendships have been made over the years.  Marilyn, our favorite egg and honey lady, even delivers farm fresh eggs and raw honey to us year round  – after the official Farmer’s Market has closed for the season!  Doesn’t get any better than that.

Even though the warm season crops are not available yet, our family came home with arms full of yummy items today:

  • Amazing shallots
  • Green onions
  • Fresh, locally grown Shiitake mushrooms – New this year.  Wow!
  • Raw local honey
  • Farm fresh eggs
  • The BEST homemade salsa!
  • Grass fed ground beef
  • Homemade tamales

Combine most of those items together and we feasted on an fabulous omelet after we got home.  Yum!

BAM helps us to save money on our grocery bill so we can put aside a little for Saturday morning treks to Farmer’s Market.  What a win, win!

We hope you will join us in savoring the local flavor next Saturday!
