Green Dinosaur Smoothie

Spinach does not usually find itself at the the top of the average kid’s favorite foods list. But spinach is a power veggie that every kid needs! One of my strategies to help my children willingly try foods that initially seem off-putting is to engage their imaginations. Thus was born the Green Dinosaur Smoothie!

I learned early on that to a green smoothie newbie, purity makes a difference. Which is to say, if it is called green dinosaur juice, it had better look like green dinosaur juice. Green smoothies made with strawberries are, well, disgusting looking. They taste delicious, but if you have a child who might be turned off by the visual, it’s better to stick with pale fruits, or use opaque cups with lids and straws so they can’t actually see what they are consuming. For the Green Dinosaur Smoothie, we add peaches, bananas and orange juice to keep it a bright green treat.

For especially reluctant children, lots of roaring and even crawling around on hands and knees is advised. Yes Mom and Dad, I mean you! Have fun with it!

Blend on high until the mixture is frothy and the spinach is just tiny specks. This may take a while in less powerful machines.

If your blender is not very powerful, you may need to stop a few times and use a wooden spoon to move some of the fruit chunks down toward the bottom of the blender. You’ll know you’re done when the green smoothie is smooth and green! It really is that simple.

oooh thank you! I have been struggling to get through the day, my chronic fatigue has been kicking my butt lately with all the weather changes it has intensified even more. I have digestive issues on top of that as well. My daughters have recently suggested a detox and greens. I happen to have all these ingredients, looking forward to this recipe in the morning. 🙂
