Bird’s Nest Pie – Cooking with Kids

Bird’s Nest Pie is a long-time favorite in our house. The kids beg for it!

This is not a recipe that can be made unsupervised. I cooked the spaghetti, beef and onions ahead of time and let our six year old assemble the pie. If your kids like really getting their hands into their food, this is the recipe for them!

Ingredients
8 oz spaghetti
2 eggs
1/3 c parmesan cheese
2 T butter
1/2 c chopped onion
8 oz sour cream
1 lb ground beef
6 oz tomato paste
1 c water
4 oz mozzarella

Mom’s prep:
Preheat oven to 350°. Break spaghetti in half and cook. While spaghetti is cooking, brown the beef and drain, then add tomato paste and water. Simmer beef/tomato mix 10 min. Sauté onion in the butter and stir in sour cream. Drain spaghetti when done.

Kids’ turn:
1) Beat eggs and add to warm spaghetti, along with parmesan.
